wake up, sleepyhead

While Lucas continued to sleep like the dead, Trip decided to try using the gas stove to cook breakfast. Given that he only had about two meals in his repertoire of culinary skills (omelette and mac 'n cheese...) and only one of them was really appropriate breakfast food (and he didn't randomly carry a bag of elbow macaroni, okay, and cheese would go bad in a backpack&mdas; it wasn't as easily acquired like eggs and ketchup packets were).
He might've had to dry cook it, given the lack of cooking oil, but it was puffy and yellow all the same and the warm, eggy scent should waft throughout the wooden cabin.
Frillish floated nearby in case it needed to douse a fire, not that he'd admit to that.]

Date: 2016-11-19 10:18 pm (UTC)...shortly after Treecko had hopped off the bed in pursuit of food, Lucas began to wake up himself. There was something oddly... familiar about the smell - so much so that it had cut through whatever dream he might have been having before and pulled him back to the waking world.]
...Treecko?
[Welp, the little Pokemon was off again, but the cabin was a cosy one and nothing was too far apart. Pushing himself up from his bed and yawning widely, Lucas scoots into the dining area to the smell and sight of a fluffy, yellow omelette being dished up by Trip. The sight of such a thing was enough to wake him up near instantly and he proceeds to stare at it for a good long while before he speaks up. It was almost comical, as if he'd never seen such a thing before, and yet in all honesty he knew this item of food best of all.]
Trip! You made this?
[Don't sound so surprised, Lucas.]

Date: 2016-11-23 06:04 am (UTC)[Immediately upon being discovered, he was turning pink and on the defensive. It was simple, but it was one of the only things he knew how to make, okay?
He lived a very sheltered life... in most respects.]

Date: 2016-11-23 11:21 am (UTC)I-I didn't mean anything bad by it! I love omelettes! I'm sure yours are great!
[He can't quite bring himself to say 'the best', that title is reserved for someone else. But he's sure Trip's capable of feeding himself just fine, being a seasoned trainer and all!]
I'm finally on top of tags!! \o/
Date: 2016-11-26 06:35 am (UTC)[That's a surprise.
He looked back at the plate, a bit dubiously...
But they're such a simple, commoner's dish— oh.
Right.]
Well, don't get your hopes up too high, I guess.
[It's an irritable grumble, but it lacks any real bite to it at all, clearly just to mask his own embarrassment, before he sits down and takes a fork to it.
There's no bread, because that won't last, but there's some biscuits and juice boxes (orange, of course) if Lucas wants any.]

Date: 2016-12-09 05:14 pm (UTC)Though Lucas, with no disrespect to Trip, does take his words to heart. There was only one person he knew that made the best omelettes and well... she was no longer present.
Something which unfortunately seems to sour the boy's mood somewhat, despite tucking into his own food with gusto to begin with. Lucas' pause might give the indication that he's not enjoying it, but that's really not it at all! And it's only when Treecko pipes up that he realises he might be acting a little off.]
Oh! A-ah, did you bring any food that Treecko could have? I think he might be hungry.
[He asks, rather hesitantly, and clearly with no intent to try and mask what Treecko was actually concerned about, nope.]
Lucas has successfully pulled the wool over Trip's eyes! (for the time being)
Date: 2017-01-18 10:40 pm (UTC)He might've been perceptive, but he also lacked the experience to recognize a distraction like that.]
Well, I've got Pokemon food in my bag...
[He took out a tin of Pokemon food and was about to pour it into a Pokemon bowl left in the corner of the cabin, gathering dust, but the moment he saw how dirty it looked, he put the tin down to go and wash and scrub. Nobody's eating out that thing the way it was before!]
Ugh, gross... how long has this been sitting here?
mission accomplished! 8D;;
Date: 2017-01-21 07:53 pm (UTC)Anticipating some good food, Treecko heads over to Trip as he retrieves the bowl, but noting the dust and cobwebs all over it, he can't help but screw his nose up at the sight and give off his own sound of disgust: "Reeee...."]
Huh... I guess this place really hasn't been lived in for a long time. I wonder who was here last?
[They must have had their own Pokemon, right? Maybe they were on their own journey too!]
Isn't there something sad about an abandoned house? Even if it's just a cabin... I'm glad we can brighten it up a bit.
[Oops, there's that sad thinking again, sorry Trip!]
whoops, wool's off
Date: 2017-01-21 08:33 pm (UTC)True, Lucas did seem a very sensitive child, but, at the same time...
When Trip finally finished cleaning the bowl as best as he could (some of the kitchenware looked even worse
that steel wool looked like a trip for a tetanus shot waiting to happen, so he might have. Picked at it. A little with his nails, to get the remaining grime off and hurt himself, but he wasn't going to draw attention to that and look weak or unclean, so he simply hid his hands), he dried the inside of the bowl and poured some Pokemon food out, looking quite pleased with himself.Maybe his Pokemon are going to have to take turns wating from the bowl after Treecko, but...
Sorry, Lucas, you're not getting off the hook that easily. He sat down and looked Lucas in the eye with perhaps far too serious an expression.]
Is there something familiar about this?
This old cabin? This meal? You've been acting... weird. Is everything alright?
OOOOPS
Date: 2017-01-24 07:12 pm (UTC)But as it was, he was rather more concerned about Trip's question and the fact he was sitting right there, with that steely look in his eyes. Treecko offers gratitude for the food and starts eating, but as soon as Trip starts interrogating his trainer, he can't help but slow up and look his way too...
There's an incredibly awkward pause and Lucas obviously doesn't look happy, frowning and frozen on the spot. His eyes moisten almost as if he's fighting back tears. But he shakes his head and forces a smile all the same.]
There's... there's nothing wrong. Nothing! I'm fine. Thanks for the good food. Treecko says thanks too!
[See? Let him just finish off his breakfast and forget whatever weirdness he was picking up on right now.]
he.......... tried................
Date: 2017-01-27 10:21 pm (UTC)Ah. He touched on something he shouldn't have... he realizes that when he notices those eyes tearing up. He realized belatedly that maybe he shouldn't have interrogated the boy...]
I'm— um, glad.
[He was far from delicate in handling, well, anything really, so he didn't quite know how to write that off...
But he did look apologetic when he realized it.
What can be done now, um...]
I'll head out to train until you two are finished.
[Yeah. Real smooth.]
Trip <3
Date: 2017-02-13 04:10 pm (UTC)[Well... now Lucas feels kind of bad for putting Trip out like that. He'll allow a bit of space between them though as he finishes eating alongside Treecko, before heading out to find the other boy again. Maybe he can learn some more tips watching Trip train his own Pokemon?
Still, whatever Trip was doing and however long Lucas watches from the sidelines, he still can't quite shake that awkward feeling of a lingering dark atmosphere over the situation. Treecko can sense his trainer's gloom too, and starts to tug at Lucas' wrist rather urgently before pointing at Trip. Go and say something! It seemed kind of rude to just barge in and interrupt, but Lucas knew that Treecko was right. He couldn't just carry on as if nothing had happened. So when he finds a suitable pause he decides to get up and approach.]
Um... Trip? I'm... I'm sorry for being weird earlier. It's just, someone I used to know made really good homemade omelettes, for my whole family. It was my favourite food in the whole world! [See? He's smiling. It's not totally depressing.] It... it brought back memories, that's all...
in which he realizes he messed up
Date: 2017-03-17 05:23 pm (UTC)Why was all of this in the past tense?
He winced, turning around to face Lucas, while Serperior halted its attack to glance back over its leafy collar.]
... is that person... gone now, Lucas?
[Very slowly and awkwardly asked, because wow, did he just open up an old wound completely unintentionally. He felt awful for heckling the kid for answers like that, if his suspicions are correct...]
wahh, it's okay Trip!! ;;
Date: 2017-03-21 07:58 pm (UTC)[He gives a firm nod to confirm, not quite able to meet Trip's gaze yet, and he seemingly can't quite find the strength to say it out loud. He was getting better at talking about it, but it was still a sore point. The tears still pricked at his eyes and he still stood there with his fists clenched, fighting them back. Deep breaths, Lucas. You don't want to worry Treecko, Trip or even his own Pokemon, do you?
Though he's very aware of stray tears running down his cheeks, he forces himself to look up.]
I-it's not your fault, Trip. D-don't feel bad!
there was an attempt
Date: 2017-03-27 05:43 pm (UTC)Now he's crying.]
... don't tell me that!
[He's so frustrated with the unfamiliar situation and Lucas trying to comfort him while he clearly needs it the most right now that his voice goes high, strained, and he looks terribly lost.
He drops his bag so he can at least keep his pants clean when he kneels (look, he doesn't kneel at all, normally) and tries to hold Lucas' shoulders. When he speaks, it's with as firm a voice as he can manage:]
Don't tell me that when you're the one who's crying.
I'm... [Saying "sorry" was still too much for his pride, hm.]
I didn't meant to hut you, okay?
It's... okay to miss people, okay? I have someone I really miss too. Your memories of them are important, sometimes, they're all you've got.
[He tried?]
