wake up, sleepyhead
While Lucas continued to sleep like the dead, Trip decided to try using the gas stove to cook breakfast. Given that he only had about two meals in his repertoire of culinary skills (omelette and mac 'n cheese...) and only one of them was really appropriate breakfast food (and he didn't randomly carry a bag of elbow macaroni, okay, and cheese would go bad in a backpack&mdas; it wasn't as easily acquired like eggs and ketchup packets were).
He might've had to dry cook it, given the lack of cooking oil, but it was puffy and yellow all the same and the warm, eggy scent should waft throughout the wooden cabin.
Frillish floated nearby in case it needed to douse a fire, not that he'd admit to that.]

[Well... now Lucas feels kind of bad for putting Trip out like that. He'll allow a bit of space between them though as he finishes eating alongside Treecko, before heading out to find the other boy again. Maybe he can learn some more tips watching Trip train his own Pokemon?
Still, whatever Trip was doing and however long Lucas watches from the sidelines, he still can't quite shake that awkward feeling of a lingering dark atmosphere over the situation. Treecko can sense his trainer's gloom too, and starts to tug at Lucas' wrist rather urgently before pointing at Trip. Go and say something! It seemed kind of rude to just barge in and interrupt, but Lucas knew that Treecko was right. He couldn't just carry on as if nothing had happened. So when he finds a suitable pause he decides to get up and approach.]
Um... Trip? I'm... I'm sorry for being weird earlier. It's just, someone I used to know made really good homemade omelettes, for my whole family. It was my favourite food in the whole world! [See? He's smiling. It's not totally depressing.] It... it brought back memories, that's all...
in which he realizes he messed up
Why was all of this in the past tense?
He winced, turning around to face Lucas, while Serperior halted its attack to glance back over its leafy collar.]
... is that person... gone now, Lucas?
[Very slowly and awkwardly asked, because wow, did he just open up an old wound completely unintentionally. He felt awful for heckling the kid for answers like that, if his suspicions are correct...]
wahh, it's okay Trip!! ;;
[He gives a firm nod to confirm, not quite able to meet Trip's gaze yet, and he seemingly can't quite find the strength to say it out loud. He was getting better at talking about it, but it was still a sore point. The tears still pricked at his eyes and he still stood there with his fists clenched, fighting them back. Deep breaths, Lucas. You don't want to worry Treecko, Trip or even his own Pokemon, do you?
Though he's very aware of stray tears running down his cheeks, he forces himself to look up.]
I-it's not your fault, Trip. D-don't feel bad!
there was an attempt
Now he's crying.]
... don't tell me that!
[He's so frustrated with the unfamiliar situation and Lucas trying to comfort him while he clearly needs it the most right now that his voice goes high, strained, and he looks terribly lost.
He drops his bag so he can at least keep his pants clean when he kneels (look, he doesn't kneel at all, normally) and tries to hold Lucas' shoulders. When he speaks, it's with as firm a voice as he can manage:]
Don't tell me that when you're the one who's crying.
I'm... [Saying "sorry" was still too much for his pride, hm.]
I didn't meant to hut you, okay?
It's... okay to miss people, okay? I have someone I really miss too. Your memories of them are important, sometimes, they're all you've got.
[He tried?]
